Top Ten Tuesday – Books We Wished We DNFed

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provides a topic, and you choose ten book related things to answer the topic. This week’s topic is actually Books We Decided to DNF too Quickly, one that neither of us could really answer because neither of us are prone to DNFing. Instead, we twisted it slightly to books that we wished we had DNFed.

1. A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

Emily and I had to read this last year for our bookclub, and from the very first page I was struggling. I was just so incredibly bored with this book, to the point that I didn’t even finish it in time for our bookclub’s meeting. I ended up forcing myself to finish it, and now I just don’t understand why I didn’t allow myself to DNF it because I only remember how much I disliked this book and nothing else.

2. Starry Night by Isabel Gillies Continue reading “Top Ten Tuesday – Books We Wished We DNFed”

Top Ten Tuesday – Books We Loved But Will Never Reread

This is a tricky topic, because generally, if I love a book, I will want to reread it. However, it is true that I am trying to be harsher because there are too many books in the world and not enough time to read them!

Not a terrible reading week, but I didn’t get as much done over the Easter long weekend as I would have liked to. Still, I can’t complain about eight books being ticket off the TBR!

FOUR non-fiction titles this week! Inferior by Angela Saini is about the scientific studies into the differences between men and women, and the scientific justifications used (often falsely) to depict women as inferior to men. It was written very conversationally, but still intelligently. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see Saini speak at the Sydney Writer’s Festival! 🙂 Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon was a complete delight, as I would imagine Iris herself is. It was bright, colourful, sweet and fun. I want to be more like Iris! Continue reading “Currently Reading”

This past fortnight hasn’t been my best for reading. I’ve managed to finish four books and am currently 30 pages towards the end of a fifth book.

I finally finished Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston. I was so incredibly disappointed in this book. I loved her previous book, Geekerella, but Heart of Iron failed to be as charming to me. This kind of put me in a bit of a slump and is the reasoning behind why I read so little. Continue reading “Currently Reading”

We missed posting our currently reading segment last week – Emily was overseas in Vietnam and Tanaya was just super busy and forgot… oops! This is going to be slightly longer than usual because we have both read quite a bit in the last fortnight.

I’m on holiday so there is A LOT of reading happening! Woohoo – I might finally get on top of my Goodreads goal! Before I left, I started listening to the audio version of The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. Since returning on Monday, I have continued and I am really really enjoying it! 1. Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti

I was intrigued by this book simply because my experiences with Scott Westerfeld had been so up and down over the years. When I finally got around to reading it I was so pleasantly surprised because I actually really enjoyed it. I even managed to convince a friend to buy and read it at the same time because she could tell how much I was enjoying it.

2. The Waking Land by Callie Bates Continue reading “Top Ten Tuesday – Books That Surprised Us (In a Good or a Bad Way)”

Last week I had mentioned how I had hoped to read six book in the following week… I definitely did not manage to achieve this (oops!). I did manage to finish three books, one audiobook, and get 200 pages into another book, but for the most part I was binge watching The Office again.

First up, I finished Autoboyography by Christina Lauren. For most of the book I was really loving it, and thinking it would be an easy five star read. Continue reading “Currently Reading”
