I’ve been super excited for Reign the Earth ever since I first saw it at Book Expo last May. Unfortunately for me I didn’t manage to get an ARC at the time, but a few months later one turned up on my desk at work. Whilst I went into it expecting to enjoy the book, I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did. Reign the Earth is superbly good, and a definite must-read.

Publisher: Harlequin Teen Australia
Format: ARC paperback, 511 pages
ISBN: 9780008228330

Zenith was one of my most anticipated books of the year. I’ve watched Sasha’s booktube videos on and off for several years now, and whilst I had some wariness towards the quality of this book going into it, I really wanted to enjoy and love it. Unfortunately for me, this wasn’t really the case, and I actually had to force myself to finish the book.

This week my reading has been pretty abysmal. Part of this is from what I have been reading, but mostly it’s because I may have gotten a tad addicted to The Office

Since the last post, I continued to read more of The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray. I’m currently on page 320, and will have to return to it in the next couple of days. I was enjoying it, but I had to read some books for work, and so I put it to the side for a little bit. I am trying to get out of the habit of having multiple books going at once, and I will definitely be returning to this once I have finished my current (and final) read for work. Since the last currently reading post, I’ve managed to finish three books an get halfway through a fourth. I finished our bookclub pick of Happiness for Humans by P.Z. Reizin which I enjoyed but didn’t love; I completed Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia which I LOVED so so so so much; and I got through A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro which was completely different to what I thought it would be and not really my cup of tea. Five Favourites of 2017

Tanaya’s 2017 Favourites

Ask any book lover to tell you their favourite book and I’m sure they’ll have a struggle narrowing it down to just one. Even picking five favourites of 2017 was difficult because there were just so many incredible books we both read.

I in particular have found that my reading tastes have shifted immensely in the last twelve months. When looking at all the books I read last year, a significant number were adult fiction as opposed to YA. Whilst once upon a time the thought of my favourite books no longer being my favourites somewhat saddened me, I now am excited for the all the fantastic books I’ve yet to discover and fall in love with.

What We’re Currently Reading

The first book I picked up in 2018 was The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith. It wasn’t incredible but it was an addictive crime novel with an easy to follow story arc. I am now reading Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton. This novel isn’t out until July 2018, but I have a very early reading copy from work (YAY!). I’m only a hundred pages in, but I’m finding it a little reminiscent of Jasper Jones, which is one of my favourite Australian novels. I expect great things.
