Fight Like a Girl!

Sometimes I get a bit angry at the state of the world. Sometimes, it can be hard to see discrimination against women and not know how to handle it. Sometimes, we have to turn to books to inspire us.

Things A Bright Girl Can Do by Sally Nichols is a book that celebrates the suffrage movement in England. This year marks the 100th anniversary of women being given the vote in that country. I really, really enjoyed this book. It is a wonderful take on the ways in which three very different women tried to find their place in the world. Continue reading “Fight Like a Girl!”

Throwback Thursday – Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

I had written a throwback post about this series late last year. And when Scott Westerfeld announced just last week that he was returning to the world of Uglies for four new novels, it felt like the perfect time to finally get around to posting it! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEW BOOKS!

I LOVED Uglies and Pretties when I was at school, but I never actually finished the series. It was my first taste of dystopian fiction, a genre I now love to sink into. So when I needed some extra reading material for my holiday late last year, I decided I would binge these four books. And binge I did. This week my reading has been pretty abysmal. Part of this is from what I have been reading, but mostly it’s because I may have gotten a tad addicted to The Office

Since the last post, I continued to read more of The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray. I’m currently on page 320, and will have to return to it in the next couple of days. I was enjoying it, but I had to read some books for work, and so I put it to the side for a little bit. I am trying to get out of the habit of having multiple books going at once, and I will definitely be returning to this once I have finished my current (and final) read for work.
