Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Books We Meant To Read In 2017 But Didn’t Get To (and totallyyyy plan to get to in 2018!!)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they provide a topic, and you choose ten book related things to answer the topic. This week we’ve each decided to pick five each, making our combined total ten. The topic is the incredibly relevant (and shameful) ‘Top Ten Books We Meant To Read In 2017 But Didn’t Get To (and totallyyyy plan to get to in 2018!!)’

Tanaya’s Top Five

1. Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings

I tried to read this book in 2017. I got about 100 pages in and had to put it down. At the time I was just really tired and found it difficult to get into the world without wanting to fall asleep, and I decided it was best for the book if I returned to it later. It is on my TBR for this month, so this one will definitely be getting read in 2018.

2. Hunted by Meagan Spooner

This book was so loved by so many people that I know and I kind of can’t believe I didn’t get to it sooner. I had even planned on reading it before Meagan came to visit my work in late November and I still didn’t get around to it. I love Beauty and the Beast and as this is a retelling I really should get on to this one sooner rather than later.

3. King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard

The Red Queen series is one I feel is so hyped but also equally unliked. I remember really enjoying Red Queen, but found myself a little disappointed with the sequel, Glass Sword. When King’s Cage did finally get released last year I was in no rush to get around with it. Now, with the fourth and final book in this series releasing later this year, I feel like there is no better time than this year to finally read King’s Cage.

4. The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano

Lauren DeStefano has been one of my favourite authors for years. Her writing is so elegant and beautiful and I often find myself getting lost between the pages of her books. This one I don’t actually know all that much about, but when it came out in November I had planned on dropping everything and reading it then and there… but alas, that did not happen.

5. Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza

Not going to lie, it was the cover of this book that I fell in love with and ultimately is the reason why I own this book. I don’t know anything about this book (except for the obvious that it is set in space), and I think I’m going to keep it that way for when I do read it later this year.

Emily’s Top Five

1. Scythe – Neal Shusterman

This book has been on my monthly TBR since halfway through 2017 and I STILL haven’t read it. It looks really interesting and cool and I have no idea why I haven’t picked it up. Normally I’m way too eager to read anything themed around death!

2. Victoria – Julia Baird

This is a hefty book that I don’t really want to have to carry around with me. But I have just heard the most incredible things and really must get onto reading it! I have heard Julia Baird speak about it (TWICE) and STILL haven’t managed to start. Oops…

3. Morning Star – Pierce Brown

Just. Why haven’t I read this yet? I bought it the day it came out and it has just been sitting, neglected, for far too long…

4. Oathbringer – Brandon Sanderson

I can’t really fault myself for not reading this yet. It is huge and only came out at the end of October annnndddd I need to do a reread of the first two because I have forgotten EVERYTHING! But still, definitely plan to read this in 2018.

5. The Shadow Land – Elizabeth Kostova

I adored The Historian and leapt onto this ARC when I found it. BUT I STILL HAVE NOT READ IT! WHO AM I? I also want to reread The Historian this year, in line with my resolution to reread my favourites more.

Which books are you absolutely/definitely going to get through this year?
